A Canadian-trained OBGYN specializing in family planning, Dr. Gill has dedicated her career to advancing contraception and abortion care. As a clinician scientist and assistant professor at the University of Toronto’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, she combines academic expertise with innovation to improve reproductive health.
As the co-founder and CEO of Vitala Global Foundation, a Canadian tech-driven nonprofit, Dr. Gill is committed to using technology to enhance reproductive autonomy worldwide. Her passion for humanitarian work has taken her on field missions with Doctors Without Borders in Nigeria and Yemen, and as the Women’s Health Advisor for MSF France, she has supported sexual and reproductive health initiatives across 30 countries.

- At the HIMSS25 Global Health Conference, AvaSure introduced Vicky, an AI-powered virtual care assistant designed to assist hospitals in managing patient requests and streamlining clinical workflows.
- The NHS is implementing a new artificial intelligence (AI) tool developed by health tech company Cera, which can predict patients’ risk of falling with 97% accuracy. This innovation aims to prevent as many as 2,000 falls and hospital admissions daily.
- Oracle Health has expanded the availability of its Clinical AI Agent, an advanced AI-powered, multimodal voice, and screen-driven assistant, to support more than 30 medical specialty areas.
- Epic is broadening its portfolio beyond electronic health records (EHR) by developing a healthcare-specific enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. - Osivax, a Lyon, France-based biopharmaceutical company developing vaccines to provide broad-spectrum protection against highly mutating respiratory viruses, closed its Series B financing, raising €10M from new and existing investors.
- Boomerang Ventures has led a $2.6 million seed funding round for Lizzy Care, a health tech company offering an AI-powered platform for at-home dementia and memory care. The investment will help Lizzy Care expand its technology platform that combines predictive analytics, real-time care coordination, and local care management to make high-quality dementia care more accessible.
- Wingwomen Technologies has secured $2 million in investment from a group of private investors to advance the development of its digital vaginal speculum, Nina. The funding announcement comes on the heels of the company winning the FemTech Product of the Year award at the MedTech World Awards in Dubai this past February.
- Flosonics Medical, a Sudbury, Ontario, Canada-based medical device company, received CAD$7.5M in Venture Debt from RBCx.The company intends to use the funds to expand the reach of FloPatch and consolidate its position as a player in life sciences innovation.
- Sofinnova Partners, a leading European venture capital firm specializing in life sciences, has announced it has raised €1.2 billion across its investment strategies over the past year. The Paris-based firm secured more than €1 billion of this amount in the last quarter alone, bringing its total assets under management to over €4 billion.
- BioInnovation Institute (BII) has announced a 4 million DKK (approximately €500,000) investment in Beech Biotech, a Swiss startup developing a groundbreaking treatment for preeclampsia. The funding comes as part of BII’s latest Venture Lab cohort announced last week.
- hema.to, a Munich, Germany-based digital medtech company, raised €3.6M in funding. The round was led by LUMO Labs and followed by Bayern Kapital and investors from their previous round.

- Breastfeeding can promote lower blood pressure among children, a new study says. Longer-term breastfeeding appears to populate a baby’s gut with diverse bacteria that could help lower blood pressure, researchers found. Children who were breastfed for at least six months had lower blood pressure at age 6, researchers report in the Journal of the American Heart Association.
- People put a lot of thought into getting a tattoo – the design they desire, the location they prefer and the message their body art will send to others. Most don’t think about the impact their tattoo might have on their long-term health, but perhaps they should, a new study suggests. Tattoos appear to increase a person’s risk of skin cancer between 33% and 62%, according to a new Danish study in the journal BMC Health.
- Preventive screenings for cancer declined during the pandemic, with lockdowns, social distancing and COVID-19 surges keeping many from needed mammograms and colonoscopies. - Opting for a lumpectomy during breast cancer treatment can protect a woman’s future sex life, a new study suggests. Breast-conserving therapy (BCT) is associated with better sexual well-being, compared to mastectomy followed by breast reconstruction, researchers found.
